When navigating our external world, we use labels to create clarity.

We label streets, products, maps, people, and organizations. These labels are often imperfect, but they help us avoid the most egregious mistakes and quickly navigate unfamiliar territory.

To navigate our inner world of thoughts, emotions, and feelings — we can use labels to do the same, except we often struggle to separate what we think and feel from who we are.

Recognizing and labeling that monkey mind, shadow-self, or alter-ego is the first step.
