282- Distance and Boundaries

Prentis Hemphill beautifully summarizes boundaries as “the distance at which I can love you and me simultaneously.”

The definition resonates because it recognizes that the same depth of love can look very different from person to person.

We can have the same amount of love for a person that we only want to engage with sporadically and one that we engage with daily.

Ultimately, the strength of a relationship is not defined by its distance but rather by its intentionality. How vulnerable are we, how much trust do we have, and how much courage do we hold to speak up when necessary? Are we doing a good job recalibrating? Do both sides agree on what distance is needed and why?

If a great relationship is struggling, maybe a conversation with distance is necessary.
