In a group setting, comfort is infectious.
If trust is already established, we can enhance the group’s comfort level by taking small risks.
The willingness of one person to be silly gives everyone else in the group to be more silly. The willingness of one person to be vulnerable gives everyone else in the group to be more vulnerable.
So long as one person’s comfort doesn’t intrude on the personal boundaries of another, this virtuous cycle can continue and deepen until eventually everyone feels wholly confident to show up as themselves.
If you feel comfortable, be the one to take that first step. You never know where it might lead you.
