53- Binary Success or Failure?

Our gut instinct is to think of success or failure in binary terms.

This project was successful. That experiment was a failure.

But in a complex world with many variables, the truth is likely somewhere in the middle. There are successful components of the project, and there are components of the project that were unsuccessful.

We’re simply averaging towards a binary outcome based on the story we chose to tell ourselves or others.

But if the goal is to learn and improve, averaging towards success or failure is not helpful. Breaking things down is the only way to learn.
