As the days shorten and cool in Montreal, it’s been hard not to feel a sense of loss for the long, warm, beautiful summer days.

But if I shift to intentionally direct my attention and question what might be attractive about Autumn, I soon see the changing seasons in a different light.

I can suddenly notice bright, vibrant leaves blanketing the entire city in an explosion of color, pumpkin-flavored delicacies popping up in every store, and excessively friendly squirrels looking to fatten up before the snow – so many beautiful little moments worth celebrating.

When writing a work of fiction, how we describe a scene sets the mood and tone of the entire chapter.

Every opportunity we look out the window is an opportunity for us to do the same for our day.
